Over half of the year has flown by, and it’s been a busy one! With the heat and higher gas prices I hope that you’ve still been able to make it out to the range and working towards achieving your shooting goals. Things have been changing and progressing at BRD Gun Works. I look forward to continual growth in the 2nd half of 2022! I’ve been slacking on the bulletins this year, but I prioritize client work first. With that said, I’m going to focus more on getting these out each month. This bulletin is also in a new email format. Let me know what you think of it!
Cerakote
I’m happy to announce that I have teamed up with Sam at Schiwerks for cerakoting. Sam has been doing all of the cerakote work for BRD Gun Works, and does fantastic work. Schiwerks is known for their custom and themed work. You can check out their work at Schiwerks.
Here’s a couple that Sam has done for us.
6 ARC… Mini 243 Win?
I wouldn’t go quite that far. But in my opinion if you handload, the 6 ARC is hard to beat in the AR-15 platform. In the 20” barrels with a 58g V-Max load I’ve been seeing an average muzzle velocity of 3326fps without a suppressor. All winter through this summer, this load has been consistently producing .3 to .5 MOA five shot groups. Out of the Vertex Pro this load hammered coyotes all winter long and has proved to be a laser. It has been basically shooting POA/POI out to 250ish yards. This cartridge has been a hot seller in the Vertex Series as well as in custom builds. If you’re interested in one or would like more information contact me!
Below is a 6 ARC upper that was built for a client this past fall. He already has 1,000 rounds through it. The picture of the target is a 1,060 yards. The 4 shots in the head of the target are from his 6 ARC upper that I built. The other shots are from his 6.5 Creedmoor bolt gun.
Competition Coyote Hunting
It’s getting to be that time of year in Iowa. On September 10-11th there will be a 24 hour 2 man coyote hunting competition. Prizes for most coyotes, heaviest male, and heaviest female. If you’re interested check out the picture for more information and get signed up!
High Performance Custom Built AR’s
Currently there are 7 custom AR builds going on here at BRD Gun Works:
- 5- 243 Win’s
- 1- 22 Creedmoor
- 1- 22-250
Building custom AR’s is a large part of the work done at BRD Gun Works. This is the main reason that I delayed so long on establishing a Series of AR-15 rifles, large frame AR rifles, and AR pistols. It has always been my belief that a rifle should meet the requirements and wants of the end user, the first time. Why purchase an AR only to replace half of the components when you can have it built correctly and to your requirements the first time? Save yourself time and money in the long run. Are you ready for yours!
Indianola, IA Youth Trap Team Sponsor
Paying it forward. Those that know me know that competitive shooting was a big part of my life for a long time. I wish I currently had the time to continue to shoot competitions. I’ve had many people help me along the way in many ways. Sponsorship from HK, shooting ranges providing me range time, businesses helping me with discounts on components so I could load my own ammunition, professionals working on my guns when I couldn’t, to family and friends being there for support. I know the sacrifices that I made. The hours upon hours of practice on and off the range. Hours of loading ammunition. Traveling each weekend to shoot matches. Sometimes two matches a weekend. The hours spent on the road traveling. Time away from family. But I also know the friendships that I made. To a lesser extent I’m sure it’s also the same for the youth trap team. While I didn’t shoot trap competitively, I still try to support the shooting sports when I can. This year I was very happy that BRD Gun Works LLC could write a check and help sponsor the Indianola trap team. It makes me feel good knowing I could help youths grow in the shooting sports. Something that has always been, and still is, very dear to my heart.
Does Barrel Length Equal Accuracy?
This is a fable that is very popular amongst the shooting community. Check out the article on here on the website.
